Why Three Sisters Press?

Three major rivers flow through, by or touch the five counties in the south east of Ireland. These rivers are known as the Three Sisters – the River Barrow, the River Nore and the River Suir – three of Ireland’s 13 River Gods as depicted in the stone heads in the arches of Dublin city’s Custom House.

The Barrow and the Nore meet in confluence above New Ross, Co. Wexford having flowed through counties Laois, Tipperary, Kilkenny and Carlow. The Suir, which flows through counties Tipperary and Waterford, meets in confluence with the Barrow and the Nore at Kilmokea/Great Island below New Ross, close to the Dunganstown ancestral home of JFK, president of the USA. It then joins the Celtic sea near the historic fishing villages of Ballyhack, Arthurstown, Passage East and Duncannon, close to Hook Head.

The Three Sisters rivers flow through or touch the counties from which come many of the authors and clients of Three Sisters Press.
